What's the role?
News Local is seeking an experienced and highly organised News Editor to lead editorial production across our prestige community mastheads: The Wentworth Courier, The Mosman Daily and The North Shore Times.
This role is responsible for writing and commissioning high-quality news and lifestyle content for the three publications, while overseeing the print production of shared news pages across the mastheads. It suits a strong editor with sharp news judgement, excellent production skills and a clear understanding of what matters to local audiences in Sydney’s prestige markets.
Based at News Corp Australia’s head office in Surry Hills, this is a permanent part-time opportunity offered at either 3 or 4 days per week, depending on the successful candidate’s availability and experience.
Key responsibilities:
Generate original story ideas that reflect the interests, priorities and lifestyle of local audiences
Build and manage a pipeline of quality editorial content across the three mastheads
Commission freelance or contributor content where required and ensure it meets editorial standards, deadlines and style requirements
Liaise with sub-editors to ensure clarity, accuracy, tone, legal risk and house style
Oversee print production of shared news pages across the three publications
Plan page flow and editorial balance to deliver strong, polished print editions each cycle
Work closely with journalists, photographers, designers and other editorial stakeholders to ensure efficient production
Maintain high standards of accuracy, fairness and editorial integrity
Who are you?
A minimum of five year’s experience in news editing, print production and content commissioning
A strong understanding of local community journalism and premium local media audiences
Experience using newsroom publishing and production systems
Highly organised and deadline-driven
Strong editor with sound judgement and attention to detail
Proactive in generating ideas and driving coverage
Familiarity with Sydney’s eastern suburbs, lower north shore and north shore communities
Experience editing both news and lifestyle content for premium local audiences
