Position Summary
The Content Specialist, Physician Engagement and Strategic Communications, supports physician engagement, provider promotion, and oncology marketing initiatives through development of clinically aligned content, thought leadership materials, engagement communications, digital storytelling, social media strategy, and provider-facing communication workflows across regional and national markets for Siteman Cancer Center. The position works collaboratively across strategic communications, physician engagement, provider promotion, digital strategy, clinical leadership, and operational teams to support referral engagement initiatives, provider communications, educational programming, institutional storytelling, physician visibility, and provider-focused digital marketing efforts aligned with oncology growth priorities. This position develops and maintains physician-facing communication materials supporting referral engagement and provider relationship initiatives, supports development of referral communication workflows, provider engagement messaging, onboarding materials, and offboarding communications and leads email engagement content, including CRM messaging, director newsletter content, program newsletter content and clinical trial newsletter content. The Content Specialist leads the development of physician thought leadership materials, provider profiles, specialty content, and provider storytelling initiatives, develops content supporting physician visibility strategies across social media, digital, educational, and professional engagement channels and supports provider promotion efforts tied to speaking engagements, educational events, media opportunities, podcasts, webinars, and strategic engagement campaigns. This position supports the search findability, GEO and provider-directed and physician-facing content optimized for search visibility, discoverability, and engagement across digital platforms, telling provider-directed storytelling and leading content development for CME programming, tumor boards, webinars, physician education initiatives, and specialty-focused engagement events. The Content Strategist reports to the Director of Content and Strategic Communications and works across disciplines within the Marketing and Communications team.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Content Planning and Development
- Writes copy/messaging/content supporting the brand strategy across digital and print, including web, social, email, video scripts, presentations, events, and thought leadership.
- Collaborates with organization and department leads to help plan and execute projects to ensure cohesive brand representation to all audiences.
- Maintains stewardship of brand tone and voice by establishing a working understanding of department’s operations, objectives and audience(s).
- Contributes to the development of strategies for multichannel campaigns to build awareness, influence consideration, and drive enrollment.
- Works closely with the Director to align messaging with brand standards.
- Reviews copy for grammar, syntax and brand style and proofs prior to deployment to ensure accuracy, consistency and completeness.
Research, Ideation and Measurement
- Understands and actively research the evolving higher education landscape, bringing forward innovative ideas and media solutions that align with WashU goals and mission to enhance current strategies and push boundaries in higher education marketing.
- Develops a deep understanding of department and institutional initiatives and how they drive reputation across all audiences.
- Contributes to brainstorming sessions and brand development, collaborating cross-functionally with stakeholders to ideate and execute communications that resonate with prospective student, current student, faculty and alumni audiences.
- Ideates within the context of cross-channel performance based on overall impact on reputation and applications.
- Participates in meetings and presentations to discuss marketing content performance, interpretation of data, and actionable plans based on findings.
- Identifies and present new opportunities/areas of marketing content that will improve audience favorability.

Salary Range
$53,100.00 - $90,600.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
