At Sunrun, we are building a future where clean energy is the standard. The Manager, SEO & GEO is a critical strategic role responsible for ensuring Sunrun remains the most visible and authoritative voice in the solar industry across all digital discovery platforms.
You will lead our organic growth strategy, moving beyond traditional keyword rankings to master Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). Your mission is to ensure that whether a customer uses a search bar or an AI assistant, Sunrun is the trusted solution they find. This role requires a blend of technical SEO expertise, content strategy, and a deep understanding of how Large Language Models (LLMs) cite and prioritize information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) & AI Strategy
AI Visibility: Develop and execute strategies to improve Sunrun’s share of voice within AI search engines and generative chat interfaces (e.g., Search Generative Experience, OpenAI, Perplexity).
Authority Building: Optimize brand mentions and citations across high-authority domains to ensure Sunrun is recognized as the definitive source for solar and home energy storage.
LLM Signal Tracking: Monitor how AI models interpret Sunrun’s web presence and adjust site architecture and structured data to improve crawlability by AI agents.
Traditional SEO & Content Authority
Technical SEO: Lead site audits, manage XML sitemaps, robots.txt, and improve Core Web Vitals to maintain peak performance on traditional search engines.
Content Synergy: Collaborate with the Creative and Brand teams to produce high-intent content that answers the complex questions modern energy consumers are asking.
Local SEO: Manage Sunrun’s local search footprint (Google Business Profiles) to drive high-quality traffic to our Chain (Field Sales) branches.
Analytics, AI Tools & Reporting
Next-Gen Reporting: Move beyond simple blue link tracking to measure brand sentiment and recommendation frequency within generative AI environments.
AI-Assisted Workflows: Use AI tools to perform rapid-fire keyword research, draft meta-tags, and analyze competitor content gaps at scale.
Conversion Focus: Partner with the Air and Manager, 3rd Party Lead to ensure organic traffic is converting into high-quality leads for our sales centers.
Experience: 5+ years in SEO/Digital Marketing, with at least 1 year of documented experimentation or strategy in Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) or AI search.
Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of SEO tools (Semrush, Ahrefs, BrightEdge) and technical platforms (Google Search Console, Schema.org, HTML/CSS).
LLM Literacy: A deep understanding of how generative AI models (GPT-4, Claude, Gemini) retrieve and synthesize information.
Strategic Thinker: Ability to pivot from keyword stuffing of the past to contextual authority of the future.
Communication: Ability to explain complex algorithm shifts (like Google’s SGE) to executive leadership in a way that relates to business ROI.
Operational Tech Proficiency: Ability to perform standard office duties, including prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
Visual & Mental Focus: Must be able to maintain high levels of concentration while reviewing complex technical audits, code, and data dashboards.
Communication: Ability to interact, present, and facilitate in person and virtual meetings with internal teams and external agency partners.
