Lead Technical Writer
Location: Cork/Limerick
Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Lead Technical Writer to join the Software Technical Communications team. This role requires someone with editorial, technical, and knowledge management experience who can work closely with engineers to create and maintain high-value content for internal and client developer audiences. You’ll develop and promote unified best practices for software documentation authoring and publishing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical content development: Create, review, and maintain detailed documentation for products and internal tools.
- Cross-organizational collaboration: Communicate with stakeholders and users across software organizations to develop and refine standards for software documentation authors and publishers, including tools, templates, and platforms.
- Knowledge management: Organize and structure content logically, making it easy for users to find relevant information quickly. Collaborate with Software Technical Communication and other teams to centralize external-facing documentation into a single portal.
- Project management: Develop and implement strategies and roadmaps for software documentation standards and publishing improvements.
- Content governance: Establish and enforce documentation portal content governance policies.
- Internal and external promotion: Develop strategies for promoting software documentation standards across the company and ensuring teams follow software documentation guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a technical writing role, with a focus on creating documentation for developer audiences.
- Exemplary editorial skills, including hands-on experience working with multiple general and technical style guides for US English.
- Familiarity with docs-as-code standards and processes. Experience with version control systems such as GitHub.
- Experience in successful cross-functional collaboration and partnerships across roles; building relationships with stakeholders, internal users, and internal tools developers. Strong verbal communication skills.
- Experience in knowledge management, including development or maintenance of a technical documentation portal.
- Proficiency with technical documentation authoring languages and tools such as Markdown and Doxygen.
- Project management: Ability to independently manage complex projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with teams in multiple international time zones, both in real time and asynchronously.
Nice to Have:
- Experience using RST/Sphinx for documentation.
- Understanding of CSS, SEO tools, analytics resources, and related tools for a documentation portal.
- Basic understanding of software languages (ability to edit code samples), such as C++ or Python.
- Familiarity with open-source communities and the open-source documentation processes.
- Experience creating project roadmaps.
- Experience in partnering with Developer Relations teams to build and publish content.
