Rakuten International oversees 7 businesses with over 4,000 employees globally. The brand is recognized for its leadership and innovation in e-commerce, digital content, advertising, entertainment and communications, bringing the joy of discovery and access to more than 1 billion members across the world. Our teams deliver on the company’s mission to delight merchants and customers through innovation, optimism, and teamwork.
Rakuten Viki is a global entertainment streaming platform that specializes in Asian content. Our platform enables millions of viewers to discover and enjoy primetime shows and movies, subtitled in over 150 languages. Headquartered in San Mateo, California, we also have offices in Singapore, Seoul, and Shanghai, ensuring a strong global presence and a deep connection to the heart of Asian entertainment. Our platform is home to a large and loyal community of fans who share a passion for Asian culture and entertainment. Join us in our mission to bridge cultures and connect the world to Asian entertainment. At Rakuten Viki, we offer a chance to be part of a global community that celebrates culture, creativity, and connection.
About the Role:
We are looking for a passionate Intern, UX (Design & Copy) to join the Rakuten Viki team, based in Singapore. In this role, you will help us shape the way users experience our global platform through words, visuals, and scalable design processes. You will sit at the intersection of UX writing, localisation, and DesignOps—ensuring our interfaces are not only beautifully crafted but also culturally resonant, consistent, and well-documented. You’ll receive mentorship from a dedicated mentor as well as senior designers during the weekly design sharing sessions, and through the connections you’ll forge with all your great new colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
Work closely with the UX team members and Product Managers to ensure design solutions meet user needs and business requirements
Contribute to the design of visual prototypes ranging from concept to interactive mock-ups on Figma
Write, review, and iterate on product/platform microcopy across Viki surfaces — buttons, empty states, error messages, tooltips, onboarding flows, and in-app notifications
Maintain voice and tone consistency aligned with Viki's brand pillars
Work across all copy related tools, software and vendors to support product/platform localisation across multiple languages
Work closely with designers to integrate copy into Figma flows and ensure copy is handoff-ready for engineering
Responsible for the governance and maintenance of Viki’s copy in design system
Contribute actively to all UX related discovery and explorations
Communicate design and copy rationale effectively to key stakeholders
Collaborate with engineers in the building of your design
Push creativity, spark fresh ideas, challenge established thinking, and discover new ways of solving a problem
Participate in weekly design critiques, giving and receiving structured feedback
Required Qualifications:
Good understanding of the UX design process
Ability to think at a high level about a complex product
Ability to communicate and explain rationale for new features and changes
A portfolio that demonstrates strong written communication — UX writing samples, content work, or writing-heavy case studies are a strong plus
Proficiency in Figma (or willingness to learn fast)
Attention to detail and a genuine care for how words and visuals work together
Comfortable working in an iterative, feedback-driven environment
Understanding of web and app design. Please include a portfolio that showcases your experience or coursework in UX writing, content design, or product copywriting is preferred. (Kindly take note that a portfolio in the format of behance.net or dribbble.com will not be accepted.)
Preferably able to commit to a 6 months, full time internship, with immediate start
