Job Title

Head of Editorial Strategy

Job Description

Location: Amsterdam

The Head of Editorial Strategy is responsible for transforming the way Philips speaks with one voice in a world of changing communications. You will build a new editorial governance model for our Communications & Brand teams across the globe. This Senior Director role provides clear, enterprise-level authority over what Philips communicates, in what priority, with what resources, and to what standard. The role protects reputation, strengthens strategic coherence, eliminates low-impact activity and enables the new, human-led and AI-powered integrated Communications & Brand workflow across editorial direction, activation and performance.

This is a direction-setting and standards role: you define what excellent looks like for Philips communications (real briefs, ideas with a clear central truth, integration across channels) and hold us to that bar. It requires strong editorial and creative judgment, the ability to make and hold trade-offs across a complex matrix, and genuine excitement for the AI transformation of communications, including how content is produced, governed, activated, measured and consumed.

Your role:

  • Establish and run a single rolling set of editorial priorities that clearly define what Philips will and will not communicate at any point in time.
  • Act as the final editorial decision-maker for communications priorities, approving, deferring, sequencing or stopping communications activity based on strategic fit, reputation impact, audience value and available capacity.
  • Raise the ambition and effectiveness of major campaigns, ensuring every major initiative starts from a real brief, carries a central idea, and lands as one integrated story across channels and audiences.
  • Replace negotiation-based prioritization with a clear editorial decision-making model, ensuring stakeholders understand not only what is approved, but also why work is stopped or sequenced differently.
  • Create and own the governed communications intake model, including clear intake rules, service levels, prioritization criteria and transparent rationale for approvals, rejections and resourcing decisions; you own the criteria and standards, while day-to-day operation sits with the Integrated Activation Team, enabled by AI-supported workflows.
  • Partner closely with the Integrated Activation Team, Brand, Zones/Regions (regional teams) and business partners within our business units
  • Shape and champion AI-enabled communications workflows that improve speed, quality, consistency and measurement across intake, planning, content development, channel activation, governance and performance learning.
  • Champion the AI transformation of communications, helping the team use AI responsibly and imaginatively as content production and consumption patterns change across employees, leaders, customers and external stakeholders.
  • Safeguard the coherence of Philips' enterprise narrative across internal and external contexts, ensuring messaging reflects Philips' strategy, transformation agenda, leadership priorities and reputation-critical environment.
  • Resolve resourcing and narrative prioritization across functions, businesses and regions with authority without hierarchy, using strong judgment, calm stakeholder management and the discipline to absorb resistance in service of enterprise impact.
  • Drive simplification, efficiency and impact by reducing duplicative activity, parallel workstreams, rework and volume-driven communication that does not materially support enterprise priorities.
  • Act as a senior advisor on narrative risk, reputation impact and editorial choices, helping leaders focus communications effort where it creates the most value for Philips.
  • Use performance insight and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve the governance model, editorial priorities, AI-enabled workflows and Communications & Brand ways of working.

You're the right fit if:

  • 15+ years of senior editorial, content strategy, brand or creative strategy, communications or corporate affairs experience in a global, matrixed and reputation-sensitive organization.
  • Experience operating with enterprise-scale accountability, senior stakeholder exposure and the confidence to make visible trade-offs.
  • Proven ability to act as a trusted advisor to executive leaders, translating strategy, transformation priorities and reputation considerations into clear enterprise messaging choices.
  • Strong enterprise editorial judgment, with the ability to rapidly assess what matters most, what should be sequenced, and what should not be communicated.
  • A track record of raising creative and editorial standards: writing sharp briefs, distilling clear propositions, and shaping campaigns that land as one idea across channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to make and hold decisions across senior stakeholders without relying only on formal hierarchy, including comfort saying no when enterprise impact requires it.
  • Genuine energy for the AI transformation of communications, including practical experience or strong curiosity in AI-enabled content workflows, automation, editorial governance, audience insight, measurement and responsible human oversight.
  • Ability to shape, adopt and continuously improve AI-enabled workflows while maintaining quality, accuracy, brand consistency, compliance awareness and stakeholder trust.
  • Strong understanding of integrated communications planning, channel strategy, internal and external narrative alignment, content operations and performance measurement.
  • Experience leading, coaching or line-managing senior communications professionals, with the ability to create common goals, clear standards and consistent ways of working.
  • Excellent judgment on reputation, regulation, confidentiality, transformation sensitivity and the difference between useful strategic focus and unnecessary communications volume.
  • Strategic mindset combined with practical operating discipline; you can move from executive counsel to governance design, decision forums, intake process and workflow adoption.
  • Positive energy and resilience, with the ability to create clarity in ambiguity and keep colleagues focused on high-impact priorities even when demand is high.
