Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Editorial Content Manager based in the United States. This role leads the editorial strategy and content direction across high-impact digital publications and online platforms. You will shape content that advances organizational priorities, strengthens thought leadership, and engages diverse audiences.

The position combines hands-on writing and editing with editorial planning, stakeholder management, and content performance analysis. You will work across communications, marketing, product, membership, education, advocacy, and other teams to develop compelling content. The role also oversees freelance contributors, manages editorial calendars, and ensures consistent quality and timely publication.

Success requires strong editorial judgment, curiosity, creativity, and the ability to translate complex topics into accessible communications.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization focused on sustainability, innovation, and positive transformation of the built environment. \n Accountabilities: Lead the editorial direction and content strategy for a digital magazine, ensuring content aligns with organizational priorities, audience needs, and broader communications goals.

Write, edit, and publish high-quality digital content while sourcing appropriate photography, graphics, and other supporting assets. Develop and evolve content strategies, formats, and features to strengthen audience engagement and organizational impact. Own and maintain editorial calendars, coordinating contributors and stakeholders to ensure content is delivered and published on schedule.

Source, commission, assign, and manage content from freelance writers, editors, internal contributors, and subject-matter experts. Develop thought leadership and priority-topic content that strengthens authority and communicates the value of key products, programs, and initiatives. Define and refine content marketing strategies for different website audiences, personas, customer journeys, and organizational priorities.

Collaborate with subject-matter experts and industry leaders to develop high-quality articles, insights, customer stories, and other editorial materials. Write and edit contributions from internal and external authors, ensuring accuracy, consistency, editorial quality, and alignment with campaigns and messaging. Use readership metrics, analytics, and audience insights to evaluate content performance and continuously optimize editorial strategy.

Manage the scheduling and publication of online articles and other digital communications. Serve as editor and publisher of the monthly employee newsletter and contribute to internal communications initiatives. Support the development of executive communications and other leadership-facing content as needed.

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, members, regional colleagues, and external stakeholders to gather insights and develop impactful programs. Maintain consistent organizational messaging across a range of content formats while adapting tone and approach to different audiences. Contribute to a collaborative culture based on accountability, continuous improvement, curiosity, and high editorial standards.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. 5–7 years of professional experience in writing, editing, communications, marketing, publishing, project management, digital strategy, content strategy, or a related discipline. Demonstrated experience managing publication workflows and coordinating multiple stakeholders, contributors, and deadlines.

Exceptional English grammar, writing, editing, and communications skills, with strong editorial judgment and attention to detail. Working knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style and established editorial standards. Experience with web publishing or content management software and the ability to quickly learn new digital platforms.

Ability to understand and incorporate specialized terminology, industry language, and organizational style guidelines into content. Strong analytical skills and the ability to use content performance data and audience insights to refine strategy. Creative and strategic thinker who can balance compelling storytelling with accuracy, consistency, and organizational objectives.

Strong curiosity and flexibility, with the confidence to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and adapt content strategies when priorities evolve. Ability to integrate organizational messaging naturally across articles, digital publications, campaigns, newsletters, and executive communications. Strong understanding of audience segmentation, customer journeys, personas, and content needs.

Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple editorial priorities simultaneously. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and with internal and external contributors. Professional fluency in English.

Benefits: Competitive annual salary of $80,000–$100,000 , with final compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, internal equity, and employment status. Remote work opportunity within the United States, with the option to be based in Washington, DC. Monday–Friday schedule, generally 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Eastern Time . Approximately 5% travel to engage with local clients and attend industry events.
