MUBI is a rapidly growing global streaming service curating the world’s best cinema. We are seeking a highly motivated Editor to join our team in New York or London to oversee commissioning and editing for our English-language online film publication, Notebook, as well as contribute to our biannual print magazine of the same name. Working closely with our Editor-in-Chief in New York, you would be central to creating and managing exciting, incisive, and diverse film criticism for our global readership.
We work hybrid-remote where we require 3 office days if you live within travelling distance. We're primarily hiring for this role in London, UK with offices in Soho, however we are open to applications from those based in New York City, US where we have an office in Midtown. Our core days are Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, with the flexibility to use our beautiful offices on the remaining two days if you wish.
Commission and edit a range of feature types for daily digital publication that creatively shape Notebook’s perspective on world cinema
Manage Notebook’s daily digital editorial workflow, including managing the publishing calendar, editorial budget, and contributor payments
Build article layouts in the editorial CMS
Compose weekly email newsletter
Conceive and oversee new editorial initiatives
Scout and maintain a network of contributors, from emerging talent to established voices
Commission and edit features for the print editions of Notebook as a contributing editor, from issue development to final proofreading
Monitor analytics and audience insights to set growth targets
Represent Notebook on the ground at events, festivals, and screenings
Coordinate promotional strategy with social media team
Collaborate with Content and Marketing teams to support MUBI programming
Leverages at least three years of professional experience in an editing capacity within a cultural publication.
Displays a deep passion for cinema beyond mainstream releases, underpinned by a rich knowledge of both historical and contemporary international film.
Maintains an active familiarity with the current landscape of English-language film criticism.
Utilizes excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate an international roster of contributors.
Collaborates seamlessly across various internal departments to achieve shared goals.
Proactively seeks out innovative ways to explore the medium of cinema and engage new, diverse audiences.
A strong copy editor and proofreader
