The School of Music and the Ohio State Marching and Athletic Bands, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seek a Content Senior Associate to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The college hosts 81 majors. The Content Senior Associate will be the marketing and communications lead for the Ohio State Marching and Athletic Bands and will be responsible for social media content and communication in the School of Music.
The Ohio State University Marching Band is one of the most visible organizations at Ohio State, with performances viewed by millions in person and online in any given season. This position has significant embedded responsibilities with the marching band during the fall and some additional responsibilities with both the fall and spring Athletic Bands. Responsibilities include creating engaging, reputation-building digital content, including graphics and videos; managing the bands' social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok), which are among the most followed accounts at Ohio State; responding to incoming media and other public inquiries; creating Ohio Stadium video board content to complement field performances; managing print projects; creating, managing and updating content for band websites; developing editorial content and leveraging owned and earned channels for sharing; and reporting on content and channel performance and making strategic recommendations.
For the School of Music, the Content Senior Associate develops content including editorial, digital, ad copy, and website content; builds and maintains an active and engaged presence on social media across multiple communities within the School of Music and actively listens to constituents and partners to the School of Music on social media; works closely with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Senior Director of ASC Marketing and Communications to stay abreast of the college’s and university’s marketing and communications direction and to ensure coordinated and streamlined marketing and communications strategies. Responsibilities for the school will also include coordinating School of Music social media activities with the College of Arts and Sciences Marketing and Communications team and capitalizing on opportunities to collaborate and organize School of Music in the social space.
Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related degree.
Required Qualifications: 4+ years of marketing and communications experience, with particular emphasis on social media, digital content creation, media relations and social media management. Demonstrative creative and critical thinking skills, strong relationship management, strategy development, project management, problem solving, and communication skills. Knowledge with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud (including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Premiere Pro), familiarity with web content management systems (especially Drupal).
Desired Qualifications: Master’s degree in marketing, communications, and/or business administration and/or certification in social media. Video production experience, experience communicating within large, complex organizations, especially communicating directly with students in a higher education environment desired; proven success in marketing and communication strategies. Background and/or understanding of music and music education desired.
Additional Job Information
The position requires a flexible work schedule, including late evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed; same-day and overnight travel may be required with various modes of transportation: vehicle, bus, and airplane; position will be required to work on game days (Saturdays) with early morning report times for noon games; may be exposed to extreme weather conditions on game days and during rehearsals, including: hot and cold temperatures, rain, and snow. Requires successful completion of a criminal background and reference check.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
