What's the role?
The award-winning Townsville Bulletin is seeking a Community Editor with a strong news sense and the ability to build community connections to help deliver an exciting new project for the masthead.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic aspiring newsroom leader who can build a rapport with a wide range of people and deliver engaging content that matters to the audience.
The best candidate will be an organised self-starter who is skilled in developing key contacts and eager to advocate for our community and drive the Bulletin’s role as an integral and trusted part of the daily lives of the region’s residents.
This is a prime opportunity for a motivated media professional to take their career to the next level in a vibrant city at a company that can provide an exciting career path.
About the role:
Oversee the sourcing and creation of compelling content for digital and print
Drive a content strategy that engages new audiences and connects with existing readers
Manage news, event and content planning
Engage with community groups and leaders and develop a reliable network of relevant local contributors
Represent the brand within the community
Work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced newsroom environment
This is a 12-month contract with the possibility of becoming permanent
Who are you?
An aspiring newsroom leader with exceptional news judgment and networking skills
Extensive reporting, editing and social media experience
Solid print and digital experience and ability to drive audience growth
You are a team player with excellent communication skills and knowledge of an extensive range of topics
Willing to embrace change and demonstrate agility in a fast-paced sector
A self-starter who can maintain high levels of personal organisation and time management and knows how to balance priorities
