About the role
Springer Nature, the publisher of Nature, is looking to recruit a Chief Editor for Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology.
The journal publishes authoritative narrative-style Reviews in all areas of cell and molecular biology, as well as a variety of commentary-type articles that highlight latest research trends and discuss topics that are important to the research community. The Chief Editor is responsible for recruiting, training and leading a skilled and enthusiastic editorial team and, crucially, for developing the editorial vision, strategy and content of the journal. The successful applicant will work closely with their journal editorial team on all aspects of the editorial process, including commissioning, manuscript editing and writing for the journal.
For this exciting role, the ideal candidate will have:
· A PhD in a relevant field, a strong research background, and connections with the target research communities.
· Previous editorial experience; experience with line management is beneficial.
· Broad knowledge of the topics covered by the journal.
· Excellent literary and verbal communication skills.
· A commitment to the communication of scientific ideas, and an understanding of the Nature Reviews ethos and unique selling points.
· Strong leadership qualities.
· A positive attitude to change.
· Innovative and creative ideas for the future development of the journal.
A key aspect of the job is interaction with the research community, including attending international conferences and organizing site visits. The successful candidate must have good interpersonal and networking skills and be prepared to travel when appropriate and required.
