Ruby Labs is looking for a Head of SEO to own and lead our SEO efforts across the company. You will lead a small team of SEO professionals, set the strategy, and personally drive results that move the needle on organic visibility, brand dominance, and revenue.
This role goes beyond traditional SEO. We expect our Head of SEO to be deeply fluent in AI-driven search, including Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) and strategies to ensure our brands are surfaced and recommended by large language models (e.g.GPT, Claude, Gemini…).
The search landscape is evolving fast, and we need someone who is already operating ahead of the curve.
If you have a proven track record of dominating first-page Google results, building powerful backlink profiles, and fully owning the SERPs for the brands you've worked on, and if you can show us the results to prove it, we want to hear from you.
SEO Strategy & Ownership: Define and lead the SEO strategy across all Ruby Labs brands, ensuring a cohesive and prioritised approach to organic growth. Own the full roadmap, from technical SEO and content to link building, and be accountable for performance outcomes.
Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO): Develop and execute strategies to ensure Ruby Labs products and brands are cited, recommended, and surfaced in responses generated by large language models including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and more. This includes building topical authority, optimising for structured data, and identifying how AI-powered search differs from traditional SERP strategies.
First-Page Domination: Own the mission to dominate the first page of Google for all priority queries across our brands. Design and execute content strategies that consistently produce articles and pages ranking on the first page of Google.
Link Building at Scale: Build and manage a high-quality, scalable link acquisition programme across all brands.
Reputation Management & Negative Content Suppression: Lead the effort to identify, monitor, and outrank unfavourable search results across all brand SERPs. Develop proactive strategies to occupy the entire first page of Google with controlled, brand-positive content, reducing the visibility of negative results to zero.
Technical SEO: Ensure all Ruby Labs websites are technically sound. Including site speed, crawlability, indexation, structured data, Core Web Vitals, and mobile optimisation. When required, collaborate closely with specific product and engineering teams to implement fixes and improvements efficiently.
Team Leadership: Manage, and develop a small team of SEO professionals. Set clear goals, provide mentorship, review work, and build a high-performance team culture focused on results and continuous improvement.
Performance Reporting: Define the KPIs and reporting framework for SEO across all brands. Deliver regular performance reports to the leadership team with clear insights, trend analysis, and forward-looking recommendations.
Cross-Brand Collaboration: Work closely with the marketing, product, and engineering teams across Ruby Labs brands to ensure SEO is embedded into every relevant workstream.
Search & SEO Expertise
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on SEO experience: with a demonstrable track record of achieving first-page rankings for competitive, high-volume keywords across multiple domains or brands.
Technical SEO mastery: Deep understanding of crawl architecture, indexation, structured data, Core Web Vitals, log file analysis, and technical site auditing. Comfortable working directly with engineering teams to implement changes.
Content strategy for organic growth: Proven ability to design and oversee content strategies that produce rankings. Experience briefing, editing, and quality-controlling SEO content at scale.
Link building expertise: Strong experience leading link acquisition campaigns. Ability to build sustainable, scalable programmes with measurable results.
SERP reputation management: Demonstrated experience in suppressing negative search results and engineering first-page SERP ownership through a mix of owned, earned, and controlled assets.
AI & Generative Search
Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO): Strong understanding of how large language models consume and surface content, and practical experience on how to optimise for inclusion in AI-generated responses across GPT, Claude, Gemini, and similar platforms.
AI tooling proficiency: Comfortable using AI tools for content ideation, keyword clustering, competitive analysis, and workflow automation.
Forward-looking mindset: A genuine interest in and understanding of how AI is reshaping search behaviour, and the ability to translate that into concrete strategic actions.
Analytics & Data
Advanced proficiency in SEO platforms (Ahrefs, Semrush, or similar). Ability to extract meaningful insights, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
Reporting & dashboards: Experience building SEO performance dashboards and communicating results clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experimentation mindset: Comfortable designing and interpreting SEO tests, including on-page optimisation experiments, and drawing confident conclusions from data.
Leadership & Soft Skills
Proven track record: You can show us the results. We expect clear examples of SERP wins, link building outcomes, and reputation management successes with verifiable evidence.
Leadership & team development: Experience managing or mentoring SEO professionals, with a track record of developing talent and maintaining high team performance.
Ownership mentality: You operate as if the brands are your own. You don't wait to be told what to do. You identify problems, propose solutions, and execute with urgency.
Communication & stakeholder management: Excellent written and verbal communication in English. Ability to translate complex SEO concepts into clear business language and gain buy-in from cross-functional stakeholders.
Highly organised & structured: Capable of managing multiple brands and workstreams simultaneously without losing focus on priorities or quality.
Performance-driven: Comfortable working in a results-oriented environment where the expectation is continuous improvement, clear accountability, and visible impact.
