Program dates : June 1st, 2026 – End date: August 6th, 2026
Location: NYC Hybrid (up to three days per week on-site)
Company laptop will be provided for the duration of the program.
Weekly schedule : 28 hours per week, 9:00am-5:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break.
Pay rate : $17.00/hour
As an HBG editorial intern at Orbit , you will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals and gain hands-on professional experience as you own day-to-day tasks, help with special projects, and attend departmental meetings.
Orbit’s hybrid summer intern will support our team by assisting editorial staff with projects. We are looking for a motivated individual who is eager to learn about the publishing industry and be part of a creative team.
To enhance your work experience, we offer educational sessions featuring speakers from all departments of the company as well as networking and career development opportunities.
Interested in exploring a career in science-fiction and fantasy publishing
Self-starter with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Enthusiastic and excited about discussing recent books you’ve read
Possess a great attitude and a desire to learn as well as excellent organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute insights
Resourceful with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and work independently
Must be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Log, review, and draft feedback on manuscript submissions
Assist with mailings and events as requested
Perform general administrative duties
Track and circulate sales numbers of top-performing genre titles
Take minutes at weekly editorial meetings
Draft descriptive copy
Assist with and learn other editorial duties
