The Leidos Digital Modernization Team has an opening for a Technical Editor/Writer to support the Federal Aviation Administration. This position will be 100% remote.
Candidate must have the ability to obtain an interim Public Trust moderate security clearance prior to your start date with Leidos. Continued employment is conditional upon the ability to obtain and maintain a final Public Trust moderate security clearance.
In this role, the Technical Editor/Writer will be responsible for providing editing expertise to assist the Aviation Safety (AVS) line of business in the publication of developed (and partially developed) policy and guidance documents.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support the revision, creation, and updating of policy and guidance documents for the Flight Standards Service (FS) workforce and the flying public as the need arises (e.g., Document Life Cycle updates, Congressional mandates, and changes in the aviation industry).
- Perform detailed editing review of draft documents and incorporation of additional edits received, exercising research skills to verify accuracy and currency of references, acronyms, and aviation terminology.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, working groups, and client meetings, taking detailed notes and minutes as required.
- Format documents using approved templates to ensure 508 compliance.
- Provide support and input for maintaining internal inventories, procedures documents, and style guides for supported documents.
- Support multiple client subject matter experts in managing document projects simultaneously through all phases of production in accordance with the applicable FS Quality Management System (QMS) process.
- Provide support in the coordination of submitted documents, both internal and external to FS, including the review and comment process outlined in the appropriate FAA order and FS QMS process, as well as post-coordination steps including the resolution of comments and preparation of the final document version for division-level approval.
- Support the publication preparation process, including the conversion or encoding of approved documents for release to the DRS Librarian.
- Maintain records of all production steps, edits, and communications related to each assigned project, tracking them as applicable via SharePoint, and creating the supporting legal case file within the FAA’s archives.
- Provide support for the maintenance and retention of backup files in an electronic format for archival and update purposes.
- Work as part of a team, supporting the Team Leads and other writer/editors in completing priority projects as designated by the client.
- Support the production of deliverables as electronic copies of files, reports, and products by assigned dates.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications and publishing tools such as Adobe Acrobat.
- Must have experience with 508 compliance.
- Must be highly proficient in research and electronic organization skills and in conducting professional communication with clients.
- Must be flexible with evolving processes/priorities and proficient in managing multiple projects at the same time.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability

Pay Range:
Pay Range $52,000.00 - $94,000.00
